Simeon Pennock

Little is known about Simeon Pennock.  The census reveals that he was born 1831/32 in New York State.  He seems to have been overshadowed by his older brother, Ebenezer.  His sister, Hannah, married a prominent man as well.

We know that Simeon married Ellen M. Crouch who was born 1841 in New York State.     They had two sons.  Edgar (Edward E.) Pennock was born at Boliver on July 10, 1857.   George Henry Pennock was likely born around 1860.

Around 1882 or 1883, Simeon owned a farm located near Flyer and Lakeport Road, Chittenango, New York.  His family remained close as evidenced by a family photo taken in front of Simeon’s home.  Those shown in the photo are:  Edgar with Mary and daughter Alberta, George with Viola and son Freddy, Simeon with Ellen and Frances, Ellen’s cousin.

Edgar married Mary C. Krusse who was born in 1857 and died September 8, 1891.   Edgar and Mary had a daughter, Alberta, born around 1880 and a daughter, Goldy, born in 1888 who died at the age of three in 1891.  Edgar, Mary, Goldy and Alberta with her husband are buried at Fyler Settlement Cemetery.

Edgar married Lena Krusse on October 12, 1892 in Chittenango, New York.  Lena was born in 1871 and died about July 1917.

George Henry Pennock (1864-1933), my great grandfather, married Ella Viola Tisdale (1866-1913) and had the following children:

Freddie Charles Pennock-born 1883 and died March 16, 1888, of diphtheria

Edith Maude Pennock-born December 5, 1885 and died in 1970

Ella Viola Pennock-born February 12, 1890, and died May 3, 1891, of bronchitis

Leota Fay Pennock-born September 1, 1894 and died in 1951.

George Henry’s grandson, Harold Lauren Bergman, remembers him as a handsome man.  George was living with his daughter, Leota, at the time of his death.

Georgia Pennock Bergman, the second of six children of Leota Fay and George Bergman, carried the family name forward.  There weren’t any male offspring of the Simeon line who lived to adulthood; therefore, that line ended with Edgar and George Henry Pennock.

Pennock was carried forward again when Robert Bergman, Leota’s son, gave the name to his son as a middle name.
