Not much we did not know - I have come to the conclusion the Kings were educated.  Most of the papers were hand written by John King.  Aside from paying for lots of whiskey, it looks like Hardy King must have been well off for the time.  Each brother and sister got almost 400 dollars.

Generation No. 3

4.  AXIM3 KING (ALLEN2, JOHN1) was born Abt. 1796 in North Carolina (Georgia 1880 census), and died Abt. 1882 in Carroll County, Mississippi.  He married (1) OLIVE BLACKSHEAR January 22, 1835 in Henry Co, AL.  She was born January 06, 1814, and died October 07, 1895 in Alabama.  He married (2) MARY AMANDA MOTHERSHED July 22, 1840 in Winston Co., MS.  She was born Abt. 1820 in Alabama, and died Aft. 1870 in Carroll County, Mississippi.

Notes for AXIM KING:

Axim King was born in NC between 1783 and 1796, census dates vary, in Wayne County as indicated by surname connections of some of the counties around Wayne County.  We know nothing about his early life until he shows up in Henry Co., AL in 1835 and marries Olive Blackshear, daughter of Randolph Blackshear.

Axim served in Wellborn's Mounted Volunteers in the Creek Indian removal in the spring of 183?, as did his brother Sgt. Harris King and Henry King who was probably related in some way.

On April 14, 1838, he is on the Winston Co., MS tax list and on July 22, 1840, Winston Co., he marries Mary Amanda Mothershed.  Mary was probably the daughter of James Mothershed of Lowndes/Crenshaw Co., AL who lived adjacent to and bought land from Hardy H King.  Axim is said to have divorced Olive and to have brought the two daughters to MS.

Axim  is listed on the 1841 and 1843 Choctaw tax rolls.  Records of the Springhill Baptist Church show him and his family as being members, being excluded, etc.  In 1850 and 1852 he applied for additional bounty land for his war service.  He had already been given some elsewhere and disposed of it.  On April 8, 1865, he sold his land near Dido (present day Reform).

Shown on the 1860 Henry County, Alabama census page 070, lists 2 girls, E.J. born 1850 and A. J. born 1856.

Axim is then shown in October 1867 where he homesteads land near Coila in Carroll Co.  He was probably about 81 years old at that time and his wife, Mary, was still living.  Roxanne, Margaret and Milzora were also with him at that time.  In January 1872 the King family is mentioned as being members of the Coila Baptist Church.  In February 1876 Mary and Roxanna got a dismissal so they could be in a church being formed at Center Point.  This church did not last but a few years.  The pastor was W C Lattimore and the members that we know of were A A McPherson, G C Reeves, J B Littleton, Margaret (King) Littleton, A P White, Sarah Blow, Henrietta Blow, Mary and Roxanna King.  (Baptist Archives at Clinton) (The Spring Hill records are at MS State Library).

Carroll Co., MS tax records mention the "Estate of Axim King" in 1883.  He probably died some time between the 1880 census and 1883.  The story from the Roxanne (King) Dunn (Dorothy Westphal) family in Texas was that he fell from a wagon hauling hay and was killed at 100 years of age.

Notes for OLIVE BLACKSHEAR:

The 1860 census lists Olive with two girls, E J born 1850 and A J born 1856.  It is possible that she married another King after Axim divorced her.

xii.   JOSEPH KING, b. Abt. 1864, Dido, Choctaw County, Mississippi; d. Unknown.

Notes for JOHN M. KING:  John and Mary (Day) King lived in the Fort Deposit area in the 1820's and moved to the Three-Runs area of Butler County in the late 1830's.

John owned land in Lowndes, Butler and Crenshaw Counties near Hardy King and he administered Hardy's will.  Mary Day's brother, William Day, Jr., married her sister-in-law, Mary King, who was John's sister.

John acquired a good bit of land in Butler County and probably lived there.  He had a land grant for 39.975 acres located at SWNE, 21, 11-N, 16-E, Butler County, Alabama dated August 9, 1837.  John bought Hardy's land in Sec 3, T10, R17, NE 1/4 NE 1/4 in July of 1858 and on November 1, 1858, he was issued a grant for 119.925 acres W1/2NW and NWSW  Sec21, T11N, R16E Butler County, Alabama.

John was appointed the guardian of minor children of Washington King on March 5, 1855.  They were Susan, Julia A, Dora A, Frances, Elizabeth and Nancy.  Both John and Thomas M.
