"Back

lost over a hundred years and had been found in the Bladen County Court House
behind some cabinets. In this will his
daughter Rebecca was named as well as her husband, Sampson Davis. The statement was made in the court papers
that Rebecca had intermarried with Sampson Davis which means they were related
outside of marriage. This information
from Alice L. Carter of Waxhaw, N. C. and part of it was in "Back to
Bladen" quarterly by Milton R. Smith.

Notes for
JOHN DAVIS:
The first
Davis to settle land by land grant in then Lowndes Co. was a William Davis who
must have been kin to our Davises. He
came early and received a land grant by 1831.
John came not long after that.
Then his father, Sampson, came about 1834/35. Their land was all located from near Rocky Mt. Cemetery all the
way up to near the Montgomery County line.
They got land grants from 1831 to 1836 to 1852. In 1867 this section of land was included in
the Crenshaw County being created. It
also went all the way over to the Montgomery County line in Lapine.
Notes for
MARY JANE PEAKE:
Family
legend has it that she went to visit her son, Will, and family and took the
flue and died. This was during the flu
epidemic when so many people died - 1918/19.
